Anyone who moves to the canton of Vaud to attend school and/or training and whose stay exceeds ninety days per year must register with the residents' office. Registration is compulsory, including for stays in secondary residences. The deadline for registration is 8 days after arrival.

When you register, the communal office will submit a request for a residence permit to the Service de la Population de Lausanne in the canton of Vaud. The commune where you are living will ask for a number of documents to accompany the application for a residence permit.

There are fees for these procedures, of between CHF 15 and CHF 30, depending on the commune, for the registration fee and CHF 65 for the residence permit fee.

Communal registration formalities for Lausanne, Crissier and Ecublens can be completed online to save time. However, you will still need to visit the office in person, even if you have pre-registered online (except for the commune of Lausanne where all the procedures can be done online).

For more information about the documents you need to provide and how to register, see your Residents' Office website:
