Formalities for students staying in Switzerland - Visas and residence permits

Students from the European Union (EU) or European Free Trade Association (EFTA)

You must have a valid passport or identity card to study in Switzerland. You do not need to complete any formalities before you arrive in Switzerland but you must report to the Bureau du contrôle des habitants in the administrative district where you are living, in person, within 14 days. At this point, you can submit your application for a residence permit, bringing at least two passport-size photos with you, along with your passport or identity card.

This will cost between CHF 15 and CHF 30, depending on the district, for the registration fee and CHF 65 for the residence permit fee.
