The Clinton Global Initiative University (CGIU) is a University network aimed at engaging students around pressing global challenges in five focus areas:
UNIL is a CGIU member, which opens opportunities for UNIL students to take their ideas forward and maybe attend the annual Clinton Global Initiative University meeting!
Check out the experience of the UNIL delegation at the San Francisco meetings.
Students, either individually or in groups, apply by creating a Commitment to Action (action plan). These commitments should be ideas and actions that address social or environmental challenges on campuses, in communities or in different parts of the world at a small or large scale.
UNIL students whose projects are approved by CGIU can apply for seed funding from UNIL (up to USD 2,000 per project, to distribute equally between expenses of the project and travel costs to join the annual meeting) to take their idea forward.
The CGIU meeting brings together students representing over 75 countries who share commitments to critical global issues. University representatives, topic experts, and celebrities will join students at CGIU to help them gain the skills and knowledge needed to take action on their commitments. Student attendees will have the opportunity to attend plenary sessions, working sessions, and other special events allowing them to network with their peers, build skills, share best practice, brainstorm and identify potential partnerships to put their project in practice.

Projects range from the creation of a soccer ball that generates energy, a post-conflict sports league, a youth nutrition course, an empowerment program for blind and visually-impaired students in Lebanon and many more! Since 2008, students have made more than 4,800 Commitments to Action, and more than USD 1 million in funding has been awarded to these commitment-makers.
